We don't have the prettiest trees in our yard since the wind is terrible here....they all look haggardly and tilt to one side! The second owner of the house had a small orchard on the property at one time but all that remains now is a small group of Blueberry bushes,a Persimmon tree, several Black Walnut trees, and a Pear tree. The Pear tree and Walnut trees produce fruit every other year and lucky us they produce fruit at the same time! *sigh* This keeps us busy for a while trying to keep them picked up other wise they rot and become VERY nasty! Our friends and family cringe when this time of year rolls around...they know they will see us on their doorstep with bags of pears begging them to take them other wise we have to throw them away! Yesterday I picked a few but they aren't ripe yet. They will ripen up in the next few days though. Personally I think they taste more like apples then pears since they have a light crisp taste. I recently found a recipe for pear bread so I might give that a try when we get sick of eating them by themselves?!?!?!
