That odd space…..

Part of the upstairs renovation included adding closets

to all three of the bedrooms.

Adding closets to a really old house can be a bit tricky……

The only way to add a closet

to this bedroom was to create a sort of bump out.

Since the ceiling is ten feet tall this left a bit of an odd space above the doors….

The other day I found this frame at an antique store and

I knew it would be

just the perfect size for that odd wall space.

Of course it is a bit worn and chippy……

I love it! Now you have a place to store things. It looks like it has always been there. Love the old chippy frame you found too. I noticed your bird prints hanging on the wall next to the closet. I have one of those myself! I'm not even using it right now because I'm out of room, but I hung onto it because I'm sure I will find a place again some day for it.

Your frame is perfect that for that area! There is nothing more frustrating than not having enough closet space. I am happy you were able to add yourself some more storage.

I hear ya about old houses and closets. Our place has closets from the 1800s, 1900s, and (soon) the 2000s. The one in the room we use as our office is a lot like what you have here ... it was built when our house was remodeled in 1967. The space above the main closet doors is a set of sliding doors that access the top storage area, that we use for storing boxes of stuff. I am thankful to have it, as storage space is at a premium in old houses, too ... which I'm sure you also are really familiar with.
