An ugly chair transformed!

I have had this chair for about….eight years I think?!?! Long enough that I can’t remember where I bought it from originally. I have never really liked the finish on the chair but fine French antique chairs are a rarity around here. Originally the fabric was a beige damask and over the years it has had a few different looks. Then it was finally moved to the master bedroom where it has remained.

I finally decided to paint the chair last week……….

Here is the before:

For some reason this chair always looked better in the photos than it did in person! The finish was a shiny taupe color and just screamed cheap faux finish.

My new French chair…….

I have always wanted an antique French ladder back

chair for as long as I can remember.

I have never found one locally and having antique pieces

shipped has never worked out

for me since they always arrive damaged.

We went to an antique warehouse sale in Missouri

a couple of weeks ago and that is where I found my dream chair!!!!

Imagine my surprise when the store

owner told there was not one chair but two!

It was part of a set……….

I haven’t found a spot for the second one just

yet but I am working on it!

A flop turned into a gem!

I have been looking for a bench for our master

bedroom for months and months.

Everything was either the wrong size, too expensive,

or just not the right style.

Then I found this bench on Overstock.

-------

-------

I was soooo excited when

it arrived in less than a week after I ordered it.

I took it out of the box and read the instructions……….

then attempted to assemble it.

Notice I said attempted to assemble it.

Uh huh….the pieces would NOT fit together at. all.

I tried forcing it and even

got a hammer out and tried to beat

it together but no luck.

It sat in an unassembled pile for a couple of

days until my husband decided to assemble it for me.

At that point I had decided to return it because the

finish was nothing like the

picture or description on the website and basically

it just looked really cheap.

I was quite shocked when it appeared in our bedroom

assembled one day

when I got out of the shower!!!!

My sweet husband had to work his magic on it but he

did get it assembled.

The only problem was it still looked cheap……….

The finish on the bench

(which was suppose to be a weathered grey oak finish) really

bothered me……….. then it occurred to me one night

while laying in bed…..why not just paint it?!?!

After all it could only look better not worse right?!?!?

I figured I could always move it to

the guest bedroom if it didn’t look right in the

master bedroom since I

have no furniture in that room yet.

A HUGE improvement don’t you think?

It’s amazing what

a little paint can do isn’t it?

I’m still working on

a couple of little details in

the master bedroom but hope to have pics of it SOON!!!!

I feel like I have been

working on the room for years…….

Beautiful chandelier inspiration……..

Hi, I’m Joanna. A guest post blogger for Arcadian Lighting, an online source for captivating light fixtures in all styles and finishes. I love writing about interior design and collecting images of the most captivating decors. My favorite styles are eclectic interiors with lots of interest from textures, patterns and color.

I’m sure whether I have more of a love for chairs or chandeliers. If I could, I would collect hundreds of both. Chandeliers create drama in a room and provide a warm glow to the space.  They come in a range of styles and finishes from sophisticated modern to traditional crystal. A popular trend is hanging one in the living room for a touch of elegance.

Two small chandeliers create a beautiful glow in this romantic bedroom. Mirrors set in back of the light fixtures reflect the light back into the room.

A modern light fixture and photographs are unexpected in this traditionally furnished living room.

This gorgeous little light fixture would be perfect for an entry or hallway in place of a standard builder’s fixture.

A moose antler chandelier gives this modern space a bit of drama. The clean lines of other furnishings keep the light fixture from being too much. Deer antlers are also popular for creating light fixtures.

This beautiful chandelier is certain to be a focal point in any room. The designer, David D’Imperio, is well-known for his dramatic lighting fixtures.
