Copper bed warmer…..

A few weeks ago I

found this antique copper bed warmer

at an antique mall.

I have always wanted one and was so excited to finally

find one at a price I could afford.

I had the perfect spot in mind for it……

the master bedroom.

The history behind the bed warmer:

Copper bed warmers were

once a common household item in countries

with cold winters, especially Europe.

It consisted of a metal container, usually fitted with a handle and

shaped somewhat like a modern

frying pan with a solid or finely perforated lid.

The pan would be filled with hot coals

and placed under the covers of a bed, to warm it up and/or

dry it out before use.

I love it! What a great find. It looks right at home in your bedroom. Sounds like it was a hard life back in the old days. We've become so accustomed to modern technology to make our lives easier. I think that's the appeal of all the old things we find. The history behind them makes them so interesting. Your bedroom is sooooo pretty!

When I was little and lived on my grandparent's farm in Nova Scotia, they used to heat bricks or the iron's (cast irons you ironed clothes with) wrapped with soft cloth and put it in the bed a bit before we went to bed. We jumped in and put our toes to the nice warm spot!

When I lived in Virginia with cold winter days, I would put my heating pad at the foot of the bed about 15 min before going to bed. Real warm happy feet!

I like reading you posts! Nice blog and beautiful photos of a beautiful home!

I am in love with your gorgeous bedroom. Yes it is a perfect place to display that little treasure.
My grandma always told me of heating a big rock, wrapping it in a towel and putting it at the foot of the bed (inside the covers) to help keep you warm.
