I have never made a gingerbread house before.

For some reason they have caught my eye this season though

and I’m thinking about trying one for the first time.

Have you made one before?

Do you have any tips for a beginner like me?

Thanks for stopping by to chat!

Have a great weekend!

Hi Des,
I can always count on you for a TGIF picture post of wonderful. I have made a house once. My advise is to buy more then you think you need because my moto is "more is more". You'll never run out, even if you snack on some of the goodies while under construction!

Yes.....I do have a tip! Buy one that is already put together and then decorate it. Don't buy the kind you have to put together before you can decorate it. It's much more difficult. I've done both kinds and the one that gave me the most trouble and didn't turn out as nice was the kind that I had to glue the sides together with icing etc. They don't want to stay together. The sides slide apart or come apart while you're decorating it. I have purchased mine at Walmart and Micheals before. They're a lot of fun though.

I've never made one either but my nephew is spending the day with me tomorrow & we're going to do one. I bought a kit at Trader Joe's.

My granddaughter and I tried 2 times
and it was terrible. The sides would no stay together - I even went and got white glue and they still wouldn't stay together - had cans holding up the sides. Needless to say NEVER AGAIN - it tried my last nerve LOL so we ate the candy. I wish you luck - my friend put one together and she had no problems.
Have a great weekend.

Hi Des,
My daughter and her friends used to get together every year to make gingerbread houses. They actually bought the kits, but each one decorated theirs in their own unique style. They always turned out so cute.

Made one years ago when my son was little from a kit. However, I love gingerbread houses and had the pleasure of seeing the display of the National Gingerbread Houses at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC several years ago…they were phenomenal…

Oh, these Gingerbread houses are wonderful, Deserae. I used to make them with the kids when they were little. It's been many years since I've last made one. Thank you for the sweet memories.

Love,
