My giant $12 clam shell……

I haven’t been to an estate sale in years.

Years ago I used to go all the time and always  found wonderful goodies.

After a while I quit going because I never found anything and became frustrated.

Then last weekend on a whim the Mr. and I went to one.

The fluorescent sign caught my attention and I thought why not?

The house was packed….as in could hardly move around.

At first I didn’t see anything and then I spotted this huge clam shell.

clam2

At first I didn’t pick it up.

My house is so full now I really need to be selective

and only buy things I have a spot for.

So, I walked around a bit but kept thinking what a good deal it was.

I knew I would regret it later if I didn’t buy it.

Then the Mr. pointed out that everything was 1/2 price!!!!

That made is $12…..SOLD!!!!

clam4

I cleaned it up with a little soap and water……

and after a little re-arranging I was able to fit it on my coffee

table without having to relocate half the house.

clam5

They had a couple of silver trays I came home without……

now I am kicking myself for not buying them.

Of course that gives me a reason to go

to another estate sale the next time I see one right?

Vintage garden markers…….

-------

Over the weekend my husband and I had to drop something off for his work at a job site in Lawrence. Afterwards we stopped off at a few places before heading home. One place we stopped was a little antique shop in Ottawa where I found these cute little vintage galvanized garden markers.

Originally I had intended to use them outside……However once I laid them on the coffee table with my herbarium book I loved them paired with the book so much that I left them.

I love the hand painted numbers….each tag was individually cut so they are slightly different in size.

While at the little shop we went outside to the garden area where this cute little bunny was sitting. I figured he would hop away when he saw is but instead he laid down and watched us as we browsed.

I found a little goodie in the garden section that I will share with you later.

New finds……

Today I am sharing a couple of new goodies

I found for the living room.

The first item is this fur I placed on the ottoman.

So incredibly soft……

The second item is this chippy shutter I found at the antique market a few weeks ago.

I love the narrow size….it fits the wall just perfectly!

It’s going to be a scorcher!

The beautiful weather we had

last week has passed and the heat is back!

Today it is going to be 100* and we are under a heat advisory!

It was nice to have a break though even if only for a week!

Dancing

I wish I were dancing
Floating across the floor
He is wearing a suit
I, a gown
The music, sweet and melodious
Finds me twirling in a fantasy land
Filled with happiness
Laughter
Love
His warm embrace
Tickles my senses
And my heart surges forward
And then
As I am looking into his eyes
Searching every corner of his perfect soul
I stop
And realize that I'm not in a ballroom
Not in a gown
I'm just standing, staring into his eyes
And I'm dancing

A finishing touch……

I picked up two sets of sconces while at the antique market last week.

I really had no intention of buying them

but they were such a good deal I just couldn’t resist!

I started off with the smaller set but the seller offered me such a good deal

on the bigger set too that I decided to buy all of them.

Untitled 6

I had no idea where I was going to use them when I bought them

but I knew I would find a spot for them.

I decided to use one in the dining room under the ironstone platters.

I think it adds a nice finishing touch?

Untitled 4

I have another spot in mind for the other sconce that matches this one.

I haven’t decided where the larger set will go yet?!?!

Love means the warmth of the sun,
the aroma of a rose,
the breeze of the sea,
but as you can see
it never means the same for anyone.
Love acquires its true meaning
by experiencing it for the first time
because only then can you define it.

Little clay flower pots…….

I seem to be oddly drawn to vintage and antique

flowers pots and other gardening items.

I’m not really sure when I started the collection……

it just seemed to appear one day?!?!

All sorts of sizes, shapes, and condition……..I love it all!!!!!

Untitled 1

My latest find were these cute

little terra cotta pots tied together with twine.

They found a spot on the French baker’s

rack in the hallway off the kitchen.

New shades in the kitchen…….

Okay, I have to admit…..I have had the shades up in

the kitchen for a few months now.

At first I did not like them but they sort of grew

on me after a while!

Untitled 5

I really, really wanted the shades that Pottery Barn offers

but as you can imagine my windows are very

large and are a custom size.

Untitled 4

So, I bought the shades and added the grosgrain ribbon myself.

I bought the ribbon on eBay

and attached it to the shades with fabric glue.

It was an easy process, just very time consuming.

Untitled 2

I like that the shades don’t

block the light and offer privacy when needed.

Random cuteness…….

Hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend?!?!

I picked up this cute little dress for Gracie

the other day and couldn’t help but take a few pics of her with it on!!

She was less than thrilled but will probably

change  her mind when the weather turns cool and she is chilly.

Love is so very special
Yet can make you feel so lost
It can arrive just like the springtime
And melt away like morning frost
You must find ways to nurture
Always grow your love with care
Never ever take for granted
The love that you both share
Mistakes are bound to happen
You may hurt each other's heart
Yet don't give up to easily
It will tear your love apart
Love resembles a bright flame
That lights a dark starry night
Never ever let this flame burn down
Rekindle with all your might
Take a moment every day
Look deep into each other's eyes
Never hesitate to show affection
Small gestures will keep a love alive
Talk openly about your feelings
Take time to show that you care
Treasure each and every moment
Because to find true love is rare

6 things you didn’t know about the flag…..

She Waves

6 Things You Didn't Know About the Flag

These surprising facts will change the way you look at the Stars and Stripes.

BY REBECCA DECZYNSKI at Good Housekeeping

1. There have been 27 official versions of the American flag, each with a different number of stars in the blue union. The official original flag contained 13 stripes and 13 stars, both symbolizing the first colonies.

2. The flag didn't always have 13 stripes. In 1794, Kentucky and Vermont were added to the Union, resulting in a 15-star, 15-stripe flag that inspired Francis Scott Key's "Star Spangled Banner," which was written after the battle at Fort McHenry during the War of 1812.

3. The latest version of the American flag is the longest to last, celebrating its 54th anniversary this year.

4. There is no written record of Betsy Ross being the creator of the American flag. The story was largely unheard of until 1870 when Ross's grandson, William Canby, brought it up to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. The family swears by the oral history and recorded government payments to Betsy Ross seem to suggest that what they say is true.

5. The colors of the flag are symbolic. Red stands for valor, white stands for purity, and blue stands for perseverance and justice.

6. The flag was first called "Old Glory" by a young sea captain named William Driver in 1824.

The flag is, after all, the greatest emblem of our nation. As President Coolidge said:
"We identify the flag with almost everything we hold dear on earth. It represents our peace and security, our civil and political liberty, our freedom of religious worship, our family, our friends, our home. We see it in the great multitude of blessings, of rights and privileges that make up our country."

The Star Spangled Banner

By Francis Scott Key 1814

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
