Transforming a chest with a little paint…….

chest2

I have been looking for a French chest for the upstairs hallway for a couple of years. I have found many goodies on Craig’s List during the search but never a chest. Soooooo……my DH bought me this one at an antique shop for our anniversary.

It was a solid piece and cost $86 with tax. It did come with drawers but I was so excited to get to work on it that I had already removed the drawers and started working on them by the time I remembered to take a pic.

The piece had been refinished poorly and had reproduction hardware so I didn’t feel bad about giving her a little face lift.

I used a dark blue-ish grey color as the base coat and a light grey color on top of that. The whole piece was finished off with dark wax.

I bought some vintage handles on eBay and gave them a coat of paint in hammered bronze.

I re-used the lock covers and gave them a coat of paint too.

The total cost for the project including the chest was around $100…..not bad huh?

I’m still working on accessorizing the top……. I just can’t decide on what I like yet?!?!

Hope to see you there!

Wow, your new chest looks great, Deserae. I really like the color you chose, and it looks charming in your hallway. You had something ordinary and turned it into something stylish and wonderful!

I love your new chest of drawers! It looks very similar to the one I have in my master bedroom. Mine was oak originally and I painted it white. I love chests and have several around my house. Good find! I love the color you chose for yours. It really does look like an authentic French piece!

Looks GREAT! Is that in an entry hall? I like that you changed it up and put it somewhere other than a bedroom. That would make a great linen chest too!

Have a great day!

I love it!!! What a great deal too! The handles are so pretty and the color is lovely. I've been wanting to put a chest of drawers in my foyer in place of the sofa table. It would be so nice to have the extra storage. Good job!

So pretty! I love the color and texture you achieved with the wax finish. I have never tried using wax, but I'm thinking of adding a coat to my painted dining table.

Well, first of all Happy Anniversary! You did a fabulous job on that dresser, I love the color. I have an old dresser I painted black years ago and it really needs a facelift but waiting for the mood (and energy) to hit me!

Hope you are doing well.
