A trendy find…..before it was actually trendy!

basket 002

I’ve had this basket for at least ten years…probably longer. I don’t remember how much exactly I paid for it but I know it was not much…probably less than $10. I remember buying it like it was just yesterday……. We went to a warehouse sale where the dealer had just gotten a shipment of European antiques in. We arrived early to the sale and stood in line waiting for the doors to open at 5pm sharp. Once inside we walked up and down the isles of row after row of tables, chairs, armoires, and sideboards. On this particular trip to the warehouse sale which was held annually we were looking for an armoire to house our TV in which we did find. While waiting in line to pay my husband decided to venture into the room of smalls. He came back a few minutes later and told me there was a large basket that I would love and that I should go look at it. I knew as soon as I saw it I must have it……..it was the most wonderful greyish color and still had the original tag! The bottom is now falling out of the basket after years of use so it can no longer be carried but it is still beautiful. Who knew a grey weathered basket would be such a hot trend all these years later?

Here you can see the original tag…..still attached!

Reminds me of that song, I was country when country wasn't cool! Same thing about baskets...I loved baskets back "in the day" and still have many of them.

Hope ya'll had a great Thanksgiving and that Teddy (I think I'm right on the dog) is better.

What an awesome basket & how great that you still have it after 10 years! I'm quite the basket lover. I collected Longaberger baskets for over 10 years...but my tastes have changed & most of them are stored away.

That is a lovely basket. Trends are so weird, it does seem though, that whatever is European will be very popular here eventually.

What a great basket and what a stupendous price that would be these days.

I love your basket, and the fact that you kept the tag on it. Thanks for stopping by my blog and for the nice comment.

Baskets add so much warmth to a room and are excellent for storing quite about anything! I love baskets so much that I have made two or three posts about decorating with baskets. Yours is beautiful!

Just shows that you are three steps ahead of the rest of us, design wise. I'm just saying.
Don't know if I've ever told you this but I found your blog back a few years ago when you decided to get rid of your red/yellow curtains and go white. I had the same silk material, long drape panels in a guest bedroom.
After I saw you amazing transformation, I was convinced I had to do the same. Thanks for inspiring all of us! :)

Now that is FABULOUS! I too have so many things that were bought so long ago, and now the world says they are "in"...I had no idea I was so cool when 10 years ago I was collecting ironstone, gym baskets and all the galvanized metal I could get my hands on! hahaah!

Awesome find with that basket, and the TAG?? Wow.

I sent you an email, too. ;o)
