What is it?

Calling all gardening experts!!!!!! I have this vine growing in my yard and I have no idea what so ever what it is!!!!!!! At first it was just behind the rose bush but I have noticed little starts popping up in the yard now. Every year it comes back and then in August it gets these tiny little white blooms that are very fragrant. Yesterday I cut a few starts to propagate since I seem to kill everything else…… and this seems to be pretty hardy?!?!?! Any idea what it is?

If it is a weed, it sure is a pretty one…..and it smells heavenly!!!

Edited to add: Looks like Sue is correct…....it is indeed Autumn Clematis! Unfortunately it is considered to  be an invasive vine! Just what everyone needs in their garden right?!?!?! LOL

  2. Thanks Kim & Donna!!! I hadn't considered it could be Jasmine. I'm off to do a search and see what kind it might be :o)

  3. I'm with everyone else Des, Jasmine is probably what you have - though, I hear that Morning Glories self sew, and therefore are hard to kill - making them come back every year. They're more blue though?

  7. I think it is Autumn Clematis. I have it and a neighbor just told me last night that it has been added to the invasive plant list for Missouri. I'm trying to get ride of it, even tho it smells wonderful. It is almost like kutzu (sp)- it takes over!

  8. Good luck getting rid of it. It seems a shame, since it smells so good, but I am pulling it out and using Round-Up. It completely covered and almost killed a lilac bush in a ten day period while I was on vacation last month. I went through the same thing a few years ago with Purple Loose strife (also on the invasive list here in MO)

I have just started reading and enjoying your blog.

  9. Des, I'm almost 100% positive that is Morning Glory. How do I know this? Because I have 20 acres of it!!! LOL! The only part of our field that doesn't have it is the sod we put in the very front! The good news is, when it blooms it's beautiful! Put some by your mailbox it will climb up it :)
