Current project...side parlor fireplace hearth.....

This week has certainly flown by!

When we first looked at the house we knew there was something funky going on with the hearth in the side parlor. The front of the hearth was higher than the back so it tips in.

If you look closely at the picture you can see the bulge in the carpet and the edge of the tile showing.

 It was a definite tripping hazard to say the least. 

After we closed on the house we cut the carpet back next to the hearth to see if we could figure out what was going on. We could see the floor had been patched and that a concrete pad had been poured but that was all we could tell. As soon as the front parlor was finished my husband could wait no longer and this morning he pried up the pieces of patched flooring. Underneath was the original fur flooring!!!!! We figured we would have to find some old flooring to patch in so this was a really lucky find. Unfortunately the fireplace mantel will have to be taken off to repair the hearth properly. Fingers crossed it goes well!!!!!

This is the current state of things.

We had to cover the holes while we ate lunch so no fur babies would fall in!
