Til the cows come home………..

It would seem not only do I have a “thing” for mirrors but I have a thing for “cows” as well. I decided to snap a few pics of the oil paintings I have and wouldn’t you know it the subject in all three is cows!

Here you can see the colors of the painting a little closer…..

                                                              Hi Teddy!

Another painting in the dining room…………

                                                        A close-up………….

                                                    Another painting on top……….

Love all the different shades of blue in this one……..

My boys taking a break from working on the upstairs project……

The upstairs project is crawling along….today we will be insulating and hanging drywall. Soon I will have pics to share of something other than a bunch of 2x4’s!

A secret obsession with mirrors…..

The other day while cleaning and dusting the living room I suddenly realized that there isn’t a whole lot of artwork in the room. I started to look around and became quite embarrassed when I suddenly realized just how many mirrors I had hanging!!!!! I don’t consider myself an incredibly vain or conceited person so why on earth did I have so many mirrors?  After much thought I came to the conclusion that it is part of my obsession with all things shiny! You know……crystal, mercury glass, silver, the list goes on and on. If it sparkles I probably own it!

Here is one of the new improved arrangements…..with no mirrors!

Love the simple black frames and how the prints look antique even though they are new.

Antique books

Over the weekend we stopped in at our favorite antique store to chat with friends and catch up on all the current events. On the way out I spotted these two books sitting on the counter that the store owner recently acquired. Of course I couldn’t resist them….they are beautiful and for only $17 I had to have them. One of the books had a few issues….the spine was coming apart. So, I glued it back together and while waiting for it to dry I opened the book to read a few pages and found a price of $120 for set of 2 written in pencil on one of the pages. So, I think I got a good deal?

This beautiful crown looks so pretty sitting on top……

A closer look of one of the covers……

                                            Teddy, my cutie pie assistant!

After gluing one of the books I set them on the floor until I had time to decide where I would display them. Funny thing is…..I sort of like them here! Not to mention it prevents two cute little dogs from walking between the sofa and table and wiping their faces on the sofa as they pass by!

Hope everyone had a great weekend? The weather was absolutely perfect here which doesn’t happen very often!

Switching things up a bit…..

My design assistant is a little under the weather right now. Not to worry though…..a trip to the vet and a lot of rest and he should be good as new in no time! However without my dedicated assistant constantly by my side I am a little lost………..

Added a few branches in an urn and a little birdie nest……..The little nest was home to a family of Cardinals in our rose bush in the back yard this spring.

                                             A little closer view………

                                                  Another angle!

Fall has definitely arrived…..I spent the afternoon picking up walnuts that just keep falling and falling from the tree. I haven’t even begun to pick up pears yet!

Living texture

This jumbo sized fern has been living out on the porch quite happily all summer long. However,Saturday night the temps dipped down into the low 30’s and I was afraid it wouldn’t survive the cold temps so I brought it inside. I love the texture it adds to the room but with my brown thumb it probably won’t survive longer than a couple of months in the house…………..

The little guy waits……

                                          So patiently…….

                                                                  still waiting…………

Simon patiently waits for his daddy to come down the stairs. He knows he can’t sneak past him if he waits at the bottom. I like how he rests he head on the bottom step and waits oh so patiently!

Beautiful candles……..

Aren’t these the sweetest little candles holders? I ordered them from Wisteria earlier this week and was quite surprised when they arrived today. They are made of marble and are a nice weight.

I really like the way they look on the coffee table!

Just as people have a bad side that doesn’t photograph well so does our living room! It bugs  me to death that the sofa cannot be centered either on the wall or window. Plus there is the oddly placed built in plate cabinet. Luckily this view is only seen when walking down the stairs. Since the stairs are narrow and windy most people pay no attention to the furniture arrangement and are more concerned with their safety while walking down them!

Looks like fall has finally arrived here at the cottage so we will be out and about enjoying it this weekend! Happy Fall ya all!
