Old parlor pocket doors turned into a head board……

About six months ago we bought a set of antique parlor pocket doors. We had big plans for them but things didn’t work out the way we anticipated and we couldn’t use them as we had hoped.  As it turns out the niche in the guest bedroom has always bothered me….it always felt as though it needed something more. The old doors were the perfect solution but needed a little tweaking in order to work. So, the handyman took the doors apart, cut part of the panels off, and re-assembled them. It turned out to be more than a little tweaking but it was well worth it!!!!

They were painted two colors when we bought them, green and tan…….

The original finish was sooooooo fabulous…..it had wonderful crazing and chipping! However there was that issue with the green. We couldn’t have two toned doors so I had to paint over them…….

A couple coats of paint later:

A little aging was added next to blend the doors with the trim and bring back the detail of the crazing and chippy paint:

Of course this led to new bed linens and a new skirt for the round table.
You know, the old domino effect……

The doors are amazing Des. They do 'make' the alcove! I am enamored with the bedding as well. :) A very pretty guest room.

looks like it was meant to be. I was shocked that the finish on the doors wasn't the original. Thought for sure it was old.

The doors look really good as the headboard for that bed! And speaking of that bed, I just want to jump right in and cozy up with all of those fluffy looking nice pillows!

What a gorgeous guest bedroom! I love the way you made the doors into a headboard. Without the bed in front of it, it really looks like the doors lead somewhere! The bedding you chose is beautiful too.

So perfect as a headboard! Would love to see a lush boxwood wreath hanging when you get ready for another change on the mirror hung on the doors.

Des, you are the second person today that I have said that is perfectly perfect! What a beautiful alternative to a head board and such a perfect fit in the alcove. Of course you had to get new accessories and they are beautiful just as well. What a lucky guest!! Happy Wednesday..Judy
