A new oil painting and a sneak peek of the guest bedroom.....

I found this wonderful antique oil painting on Facebook Marketplace back in the fall.

Originally I went there to buy two antique religious pictures and while at the house they informed me they were having a sale. They told us to look around and make an offer on whatever we were interested in. I ended up spending $120 when it was all said and done and walked away with two huge antique religious pictures in gilded frames, two antique oil paintings, and two enormous antique crocks.

I had no idea where the painting would go when I bought it but knew I had to have it.
As it turns out, the colors in the painting were perfect for the guest bedroom.

As you can see it is quite a large painting and fits perfectly between the windows.
I still need to find a bed skirt, steam the duvet cover, and figure out window treatments but the room is slowly coming together.

Have a great week my friends....

Guest bedroom progress update.....

We have begun working on the guest bedroom on the second floor.
It was wallpapered in a lovely mauve and blue scheme.

I'm not sure what the deal is with the black shades?!?!?
They stunk like bad body odor though so in the trash they went.

Like all the others rooms we have tackled, this room had multiple layers of wallpaper too.
I'm not sure why they did not carpet this room like every other room in the house?

I found this written on one of the walls in the room. I think it is a date but it's hard to make out.

No pretty to show at this time.... but this is where we are at on the renovation process.
Have a great week my friends!

Architectural fragment……

This past weekend we went junkin in hopes of finding some amazing treasures.
It was pretty much a bust with the exception of two finds.

Old parlor pocket doors turned into a head board……

About six months ago we bought a set of antique parlor pocket doors. We had big plans for them but things didn’t work out the way we anticipated and we couldn’t use them as we had hoped.  As it turns out the niche in the guest bedroom has always bothered me….it always felt as though it needed something more. The old doors were the perfect solution but needed a little tweaking in order to work. So, the handyman took the doors apart, cut part of the panels off, and re-assembled them. It turned out to be more than a little tweaking but it was well worth it!!!!

They were painted two colors when we bought them, green and tan…….

A little Frenchie stool……

The other day I recovered this little antique stool in toile fabric to match the window treatments in the guest bedroom.

This is what it looked like when I first bought it……..
The finish was in good shape, however the fabric was pretty soiled.

Still blooming……

I do not have a green thumb……
So, imagine my surprise when this Orchid in the guest bedroom started to bloom after all the old blooms had fallen off. I figured it would get a couple of new blooms and then it would die like all the rest of the Orchids I buy. However this one has been blooming since last July!!!! Yes, that’s right, it just keeps on blooming!!!!!

This room gets amazing sunlight unlike the rest of the house.

A little chair makeover…….

chair3

I bought a set of these cute little French chairs to use in my dining room but I ended up using something else instead. So since I needed a chair in the guest bedroom one found a spot there.
I sort of forgot to snap a before photo so I took this right before I started working on the chair.

My favorite project of the year….the guest bedroom!

Today I am sharing my favorite project for the year which was the guest bedroom.
At the moment there are no big projects planned for the house in 2015. Most of the projects we have been dreaming up will take place on the outside!
-------

We have lived in our home for eleven years and the “other” guest bedroom has always been used for storage. Until recently that is when I acquired my mom’s old bed. This sparked a complete transformation of the incredibly small bedroom.

The never before seen other guest bedroom…….

The bedding is what I was using in the master bedroom but that is another whole post! Almost everything except the chest between the windows I already had on hand.

New pillows in the guest bedroom……

pillows

When I switched things around in the living room I moved the two white French chairs to the guest bedroom. Of course then they needed new pillows……

A

The pillows are from Ballard Designs and are linen with a metallic print on the front and a solid linen on the back.

A new pillow in the guest room…….

e

Hello friends!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend?

We had some scary weather here last night but managed

to make it thru with no damage.

Our prayers are with those in other parts of

Kansas and Oklahoma who were not as fortunate.

e

I ordered this little pillow a few weeks ago.

Originally I ordered it for the living room but when it

arrived I knew it would be perfect for

the chair in the guest bedroom.
