The book project…..

I have always loved the way deconstructed books look….ruffled pages and all. However the old ones go for a pretty penney and are out of my price range when I have been lucky enough to find them.

I was recently given some romance paperback novels and I remembered I had read somewhere where you could tea stain new paperback books to make them look old. So, I did a quick google search and it looked easy enough so I thought I would give it a try.

The book project 004

I followed the directions and then set them outside to dry in the sun. When I started the project it was unseaonably hot outside….and then the temperature suddenly dropped!!!! My husband came inside one day after work and announced my book project was a flop….the books were getting mold on them. Not one to give up easily I brought the books inside and pondered how to save the project. My solution….use a hairdryer on the hottest setting and blow dry them. It worked like a charm but did take quite some time since I had a lot of books.

I tied them with twine and added a couple of antique French letters to this stack.

The restyled vasselier…….

I was looking at pictures one day and I realized I have had the vaselier in the living room styled the same way for……years. It was certainly time to change things up a little!

This is how it looked:

I decided I wanted something completely different and lighter. At first I filled the cabinet with some of my white ironstone pieces but it wasn’t quite right. So I added some coral pieces and books…

I am loving  the new lighter simpler look……

TGIF!!!

With the bitter colds temps we have had this
week nothing sounds better
than to curl up by the fire and read a good book!

#Fireplaces are a gorgeous decor piece when done with thought and soul. Ambiance could be created with a unique detail like a fire place.

Hello friends!

Last week while out and about we stopped

in an antique

shop we hadn’t been to in a while.

I picked up a box of old books for $38.

Most of them were

in really bad shape so I ripped

the covers off some and bound them with twine.

For now they have

found a home on the table in the living room.

A new pillow in the guest room…….

e

Hello friends!

Hope everyone had a nice weekend?

We had some scary weather here last night but managed

to make it thru with no damage.

Our prayers are with those in other parts of

Kansas and Oklahoma who were not as fortunate.

e

I ordered this little pillow a few weeks ago.

Originally I ordered it for the living room but when it

arrived I knew it would be perfect for

the chair in the guest bedroom.

made out of cowhide and has decorative stitching around the edge.

Spring has finally arrived!

spring flowers 006

spring flowers 007

Spring has finally sprung here….hooray! I cut some vines off the ever sprouting Honeysuckle that is planted next to our front door and put them in this little mercury glass vase.

I picked these two baskets up at Nell Hills a couple of months ago and they fit perfectly in front of the settee. I believe they are offered in her online boutique now if you *need* a set of your very own. They were originally a dark brown and I gave them a quick coat of my grey special blend paint to lighten them up a bit.

The books were one of the treasures we found while in Round Top Texas……they are purely decorative but add that special touch to this reading area.

Have a great week!!!! Chat with ya soon!!!!!
