Guest bedroom progress update.....

We have begun working on the guest bedroom on the second floor.
It was wallpapered in a lovely mauve and blue scheme.

I'm not sure what the deal is with the black shades?!?!?
They stunk like bad body odor though so in the trash they went.

Like all the others rooms we have tackled, this room had multiple layers of wallpaper too.
I'm not sure why they did not carpet this room like every other room in the house?

I found this written on one of the walls in the room. I think it is a date but it's hard to make out.

No pretty to show at this time.... but this is where we are at on the renovation process.
Have a great week my friends!

Progress in the receiving hall......

Renovation is moving along on the house at a slow but steady pace.
Right now we are working on the receiving hall aka the foyer.
This is how it looked when we bought the house.

The wallpaper has been stripped and we are repairing the cracks in the plaster walls and painting the woodwork and lincrusta wallpaper.
Next the parquet floor tiles will be removed and the fir floor underneath will be sanded and sealed.

Happy Wednesday my friends!

Remnants from the past....

After spending forty plus hours removing wallpaper from each of the parlors I decided to keep a few pieces from each layer and frame them.

Somewhere along the way a few pieces from different layers were accidentally discarded. Don't worry though, I remember quite well the pain of removing those layers.

Every room in our house has at least a few if not more layers of wallpaper so there will probably be more framed remnants from the past when it is all said and done.

This door in the side parlor is probably the nicest door in the entire house. It is faux hand grained and had quite a few dings and scratches. I did the best I could to fix them with a little paint.

There is no shortage of projects for this poor neglected house!

The parlor….

This is the front parlor….

The massive window faces the street.

This is the doorway leading to the side parlor.

With the doors closed. The doors have handpainted faux wood grain to look like cherry wood.

You can see wallpaper removal has started.

All FOUR layers!

It has been a very slow process even with using a wallpaper steamer.

There is not a single room in the house that does NOT have wallpaper.

Til next time…..
