The Other Side.....

On a whim one day I decided to try the chest I painted a few weeks ago
on the other side of the window.

I left the shutters in place and put the chest in front of them.
I also switched the sconce out for a framed herbarium.
I'm really happy with the change.....for now.
Thanks for stopping by...
Have a great week my friends!

A new chandelier for the front parlor.....

Old houses definitely talk to you.....you just have to listen closely.
When we first purchased this house I thought the grand old lady would be dressed totally formal.
However after living here for several months now she has told me that she is slightly casual with a little fancy thrown in.
In other words it means I move things around a lot to get things just right!
The first light fixture we installed in the front parlor was pretty but not quite right.
I knew she needed something with a little bling.

I found this crystal chandelier on Facebook Market Place for $150.
It was soooooo much prettier in person than the pictures in the ad.
Of course the lady had two chandeliers but I only bought this one.
Now I am kicking myself! What was I thinking?
Total love.....
Have a great rest of the week my friends!

A little chair project.....

My husband went to buy a set of chairs off of Facebook Market Place a few weeks ago. As it turns out, the seller buys up estates for resale. My husband bought this chair for $20 along with a bunch of other things. The chair is very solid and extremely heavy but the fabric didn't exactly match my decor.

I found a pretty check fabric in a light grey.....
I love the legs and the detail on the back of the chair....so pretty!

The project took less than 30 minutes and cost around $40.
Have a great weekend my friends!

Start the car!

The other day I was browsing Facebook Market Place and I came across a beautiful chaise lounge chair. Of course I instantly wanted to buy it but the practical me reasoned that I still have my whole house packed away in boxes and I really shouldn’t buy anything right now.The next day when I logged on again there was that chaise lounge chair back to haunt me and now with a new lower price!  *sigh* I gave in and messaged the seller and then waited, and waited, and waited. Nothing! Later on in the day I noticed the posting said pending and then sold so I knew it wasn’t meant to be. Later on though I had a nagging feeling I needed to go back and check Facebook Market Place and when I did there was that chaise lounge chair once again…. only this time it was posted by someone else and it was FREE!!!! So we jumped in the truck and went to pick it up….

The slipcover is made from an antique sheet and has the most beautiful detailing. The slipcover needed a little love….it had several tears in the fabric that I had to mend. The chaise lounge itself is incredibly old, probably from the early 1800’s.

It was just meant to be that the little chaise lounge come to live at our house. Everything including our house needs a little mending and a little love it would seem so it fits right in!

Have a great weekend my friends!!!

Changing things up a bit.....

I recently made a few changes to the front parlor.
Before I had the chippy shutters next to the chair and a different chest under the gold mirror.

I replaced the shutters with herbariums that were hanging in our bedroom at our last house
and  added the stack of wicker baskets underneath.
The French chest and the coffee table were also pieces
used in other rooms at our last house.
The sofa was switched with a new antique French one I recently purchased.
I will share more of it later!!!
Have a great weekend my friends!

A cute little footstool....

It's no secret that dogs are a big part of our family. We would be so lost without all their unconditional love they give us daily.
So, when I saw this little footstool listed on eBay I just had to have it.

The little footstool is from the 1800's and is all hand beaded.

It has the cutest little petite feet.....

I found the perfect spot for it in the front parlor under the coffee table.
Hope you have a great week!
Happy Summer!

A new find....

I recently picked up this architectural piece at
my favorite antique shop.
It has a creepy gargoyle on all the sides
which for some odd reason I find kinda crazy... but cool?!?!?

Have a great week my friends!!!

A cozy throw blanket.....

I ordered this throw the other day from Hayneedle and it arrived today. It is super soft and just the right size to drape over the ottoman. So, if you are looking for an inexpensive cozy throw hop on over and check them out!

The parlor….

This is the front parlor….

The massive window faces the street.

This is the doorway leading to the side parlor.

With the doors closed. The doors have handpainted faux wood grain to look like cherry wood.

You can see wallpaper removal has started.

All FOUR layers!

It has been a very slow process even with using a wallpaper steamer.

There is not a single room in the house that does NOT have wallpaper.

Til next time…..
