A prie dieu…….

For many years I have always wanted a prie dieu, otherwise known as a prayer chair. They can often be quite pricey and very hard to find. Then one day I found one listed on Craig’s List….
I was soooo excited but my bubble was burst quickly when the seller emailed me that someone else was interested in the chair and was coming to pick it up.

I moved on and figured it just wasn’t meant to be….

A couple of weeks later the seller emailed me again and said if I wanted it to come pick it up that day! We made the hour drive and it was mine, mine, mine!!

prie dieu

The chair was so beautiful and had the original tapestry still instact.

After living with the chair in my room for a few weeks I realized that although the colors were beautiful they stuck out like a sore thumb in the room.

I decided to COVER OVER the original tapestry and keep it in intact so that it could be restored back to it’s original state at any time. It looks stunning in the room now and I couldn’t be happier…..I smile every time I see it!

Have a great week my friends!!!

A quick pillow embellishment…..

The other day I was looking for antique pillows for the chairs in my livng room. I wasn’t able to find quite what I wanted so I pulled out these white linen pillows I already had.

Pillow1

I decided they needed a little something else so I applied these little monogram letter appliques in white.

You can get the appliques at Hobby Lobby and they come in a couple of different sizes and are also available in black and white. You just iron them on….very quick and easy!

A new table…..

A couple of months ago I found this table at an antique shop. I knew right away that I would paint it grey. I finally got around to painting it the other day…… and it turned out so pretty!

The bottom of the table has beautiful detail…

Antique gold frames in the living room…..

I recently added these gold frames next to the chair and vasselier in the living room. I normally wouldn’t hang something so oversized on such a small wall space but I went out on a limb and tried it just for fun …and I LOVE it!!!

gold frames1

I didn’t notice the little photo bomber until I started working on this post. Can you spot her? I love that the wire the frames are hung from shows.

Changes to the French vasselier….

The other day I changed the French vasselier up and added clam shells, coral,

and books for a lighter look.

A new little table…..

So HAPPY!

Today the sun is actually shining!

We have had so many cold and gloomy days that I can’t even remember the last time we had sunshine?!?!

I ordered this cute little cocktail table a few weeks ago.

It has a stone top and is just the right height for next to the sofa.

I picked the little candle up at Home Goods the other day….it smells so good!

Hope you have a great week and you have sunshine wherever you may be!

A new slipcovered settee…….

Remember when I decided that I wanted a simpler seating group in the living room? Well that lasted for about five months and then I decided I missed the settee seating arrangement.

living room

I started looking for a settee and while there were a lot of petite antique pieces none were suitable for slipcovering. Then one day when I had pretty much given up the search I found this settee on Craig’s List.

Untitled 1

My husband did not share my excitement when he first saw it…..he couldn’t see past the blue upholstery. I kept reassuring him it would be wonderful once it was slipcovered.

settee 002

The wood on the arms is sooooo pretty…..

settee

I had to use a really heavy denim fabric so the blue upholstery fabric would not show thru the slipcover since I didn’t want to line the slipcover. I broke a lot of needles and said a lot of bad words while making the slipcover!!!! In the end it turned out beautiful though and it was well worth it. The settee that was in the living room before is upstairs in the hallway sitting area.

Have a great weekend my friends!!!

The restyled vasselier…….

I was looking at pictures one day and I realized I have had the vaselier in the living room styled the same way for……years. It was certainly time to change things up a little!

This is how it looked:

I decided I wanted something completely different and lighter. At first I filled the cabinet with some of my white ironstone pieces but it wasn’t quite right. So I added some coral pieces and books…

I am loving  the new lighter simpler look……

Industrial cart coffee table…..

cross bottle4

I got several inquiries on the industrial cart coffee table in my post yesterday…. so I thought I would share a few pics of it today. My husband made modifications to the cart itself to make it a coffee table and added the wood top.

cart5

I love the wheels!

cart2

Although I loved the cart it just wasn’t the right piece for my living room so I sold it on Craig’s List. It  sold within 30 minutes of listing it!!!!

A little sneak peek…..

I know a lot of people make resolutions to get organized and declutter their homes in the new year. I got an early start a few weeks ago…..

One of the changes I made was switching the settee in the living room with the two chairs in the upstairs hallway seating area.We are loving all the additional space now and the new arrangement works so much better for our life style!

living room

I had planned to share more pics today but the weather is not cooperating….. it is cold and dreary here. Not the best conditions for taking photos so I guess this sneek peak will have to do for now.

Hope your new year is off to a great start?

A French footstool make over……

I bought this cute little French footstool a couple of weeks ago.

footstool

While it was in nice condition the green needlepoint fabric didn’t coordinate with anything in my house.

So, I opted to remove the fabric and replace it with a toile one.

footstool3

After removing the old fabric and pulling all the staples out I added a little batting over the top

before putting the new fabric on.

I added a little gimp to finish it off and re-used the brass nail tacks.

footstool4

It’s such a cute little footstool, I’m sure it will make the rounds in the house

before I find the perfect spot for it?!?!?

Like it was never even there!!

As we all know old houses tend to be very quirky!
Some things make you scratch your head while others make you downright crazy.
One of those quirky things that made me crazy was this cabinet in the living room.

It was a cute little antique cabinet that was added when the house was turned into a B&B in 1985.
My husband and I debated whether it was original to the house or not for years.
I knew it was not but had a hard time convincing
my husband until we were given some old pictures of the house.
Sure enough the cabinet was not in any of the old pictures!

DSC_0007

The issue was not the cabinet itself but the actual placement.
It was so close to the window that the drapery panels always covered part of it up.
It made the corner of the living room really crowded looking too.

Finally a few weeks ago I was able to convince my husband to take the cabinet out.
The cabinet was held in with three screws on
each side and we were able to remove the cabinet without any damage......
in less than 20 minutes!!!!!!

Now it looks as if the cabinet was never even there!
I am hoping to give the little cabinet a makeover and relocate it to another room.

Hello Sunshine!

LR5

I recently decided to take down the roman shades in the living room and dining room. The only time I ever raised or lowered the shades is when I was cleaning them. Even though the shades were not inexpensive almost every time I raised or lowered them the strings would come unattached because the shades weighed so much due to how tall our windows are. Reattaching the strings meant dragging the ladder out and climbing up into the window to reattach them which got old really quickly. To give you an idea of how large our windows are I am average height and can stand comfortably inside the windows!!!!

The amount of light that comes in now is amazing! I only wish I had done this SOONER! I know this look isn’t for everyone but I am loving all the sunlight now……

my drapes in the room perfectly.
