Now
that the Christmas
decorations have been
taken
down and packed away
until
next year the house
seems
a little bare.
This of course means re-arranging
and
tweaking vignettes
which
is a necessity in a decorholics
world!!!!
I recently bought
two
of these
old chippy
corbels salvaged from a
house in New York.
The seller had a unique way of
measuring
them and describing
the color in the listing.
When they arrived they were
certainly not the size I
had expected and they were
a
really,really
ugly tan color.
At first I was going to
use
them
in another room but
the color wasn’t really
going to work in that room either….
or any room of the house for that matter.
I really debated what to do
and finally decided to just
paint them. *gasp*
Yes, I know all you purists
are probably thinking
I am absolutely crazy!
I mixed together a concoction
of what I refer to
as
dirty paint and painted
the new color on with a detail
paint brush.
It took a little time
but in the end they were just as
I
envisioned!
The crackled
and
chippy paint is wonderful!
I also like that some of the paint
and part of the corbel
is
missing all
together….
two things that can only
be
achieved over time……..
I added these little zinc sap
buckets to the
vignette
for a little variety of color
and
texture…
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas?!?!?
ANY
big plans for New Year’s Eve?
Des - everything looks so nice! We still have our tree up b/c more family is joining us New Years Eve. The dining room is still pretty festive too. That way we can put all the snacks on the table that night. And we will have the furry babies with us too b/c a couple of them get scared when they hear fireworks. oxox God bless!
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS! I have a pair in my kitchen and I added a glass hurricane to it... looks great when burning. Mine are a bit too grey for my space but no courage to paint them... Happy 2012!
ReplyDeleteHi Des, Everything is beautiful and I love the corbels. I have been looking for a pair to make into electric sconces. Happy New Year!

I can't imagine that those corbels ever looked any different than the way they are now! You sure did an excellent job. They look like you found them that way already. I love how you used them with the candles on top. How clever! I really, really, want that demijohn in the wooden crate whenever you tire of it too. Ha!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! Love the colors, so soft and clutter free....ahhh so nice after feeling like I am drowning in Christmas decor..lol.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and those corbels are wonderful too. Happy new year!
I hate when stuff isn't quite what we expect when it is delivered. You did a wonderful job on those. Yes, it is time to put the house back together and I have been having a hard time creating vignettes. I don't know what is wrong with me.
ReplyDeleteThey look beautiful Des! That whole area looks gorgeous!! Martina
ReplyDeleteI love the corbels- they look beautiful all chippy! I am always happy to put away the Christmas decorations because everything seems so fresh again- a real boon to us decoraholics!!
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with the corbels. I am never scared to paint anything. I want to love everything in my home, so if it isn't beautiful I do what I need to to make it so. I love seeing your new vignettes! I can't wait to play with my stuff after the Christmas comes down, but thats not until new years day.
ReplyDeleteI have a collection of these corbels but never thought of just painting the paint. Great idea on using them too as candle holders.
ReplyDeleteSo very jealous that you have Christmas all tucked away - where oh where are those elves when you need them?
ReplyDeleteLove all of your newly painted white things Des- gorgeous as ever over there.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2012 to you!!
xo~
