I have been looking for a bench for our master
bedroom for months and months.
Everything was either the wrong size, too expensive,
or just not the right style.
Then I found this bench on Overstock.
-------
-------
I was soooo excited when
it arrived in less than a week after I ordered it.
I took it out of the box and read the instructions……….
then attempted to assemble it.
Notice I said attempted to assemble it.
Uh huh….the pieces would NOT fit together at. all.
I tried forcing it and even
got a hammer out and tried to beat
it together but no luck.
It sat in an unassembled pile for a couple of
days until my husband decided to assemble it for me.
At that point I had decided to return it because the
finish was nothing like the
picture or description on the website and basically
it just looked really cheap.
I was quite shocked when it appeared in our bedroom
assembled one day
when I got out of the shower!!!!
My sweet husband had to work his magic on it but he
did get it assembled.
The only problem was it still looked cheap……….
-------
-------
The finish on the bench
(which was suppose to be a weathered grey oak finish) really
bothered me……….. then it occurred to me one night
while laying in bed…..why not just paint it?!?!
After all it could only look better not worse right?!?!?
I figured I could always move it to
the guest bedroom if it didn’t look right in the
master bedroom since I
have no furniture in that room yet.
-------
-------
A HUGE improvement don’t you think?
It’s amazing what
a little paint can do isn’t it?
-------
-------
I’m still working on
a couple of little details in
the master bedroom but hope to have pics of it SOON!!!!
I feel like I have been
working on the room for years…….

I love it! You turned an ordinary bench into something extraordinary! The paint finish you used was the perfect solution. It looks more like a french antique now. Great job!!
ReplyDeleteYou totally rescued that cheap looking piece and made it stunning, well done!
ReplyDeleteıt's very nice :)))
ReplyDeleteYou put your own stamp on a humdrum bench!
ReplyDeleteIt looks so much better - great job on the painting and distressing! Linda
ReplyDeleteI hate when that happens, Des. You order something online based on the picture and the color is nothing like it when it arrives. I think painting it was a great solution and it does look so much better. It goes so well with your bedding and the cushion on the bench.
ReplyDeleteWow, the paint made a huge difference. That was certainly not the finish it said it was. It looks great and I am searching for the perfect bench, too.
ReplyDeleteIt looks BEAUTIFUL! Though you were right, the finish looked nothing like the online picture. Hate when that happens. Great save, Des!

What a showpiece! I agree with the other commenter, it looks very French now. Good job!

What an improvement. I really like it. I just can't seem to bring myself to purchase furniture online for that very reason. Thanks for sharing, liz
ReplyDeleteO my gosh, Des. You took an 'ugly duckling' and turned it into a swan. You said it first, but you were right, if I had read the description, I wouldn't have thought it's finish would look like that, although the cushion is pretty. But after you got through with it there is no comparison. It's beautiful and looks really great with your spread..Happy Wednesday..Judy
ReplyDeleteWow, paint is amazing and you have made this new girl sing!

ReplyDeleteI love how you transformed it!! I love gray anyway but it looks perfect. Can't wait to see all of the photos when you are ready. Have a great week
xoxo

Looks great...can't believe it's the same piece. Did you use AS chalk paint?
ReplyDeleteGreat job, it turned out perfect!!!
ReplyDeleteWow!!! Just goes to show how a tad of paint can make a huge change...love it!! Hop over this week and share it at my Nifty Thrifty Tuesday party.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
I can't get over the transformation of your bench. Incredible job! Now I'm thinking it may be the perfect bench for my guest room if it's still available on overstock.com. Did you happen to use chalk paint?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the inspiration!
It's amazing what a little paint can do! That was super sweet of your hubby!
