I mentioned in the post about The Sweetest Gift that I had found
the ammunition basket a while back.
I had wanted an ammunition basket for a really long time and originally planned
to use it in my kitchen to hold my bread boards.
However it didn’t fit in the spot I had in mind so it made the rounds around the house.
I had my cane collection in an old galvanized farm container and I was really happy with the way they looked.
However every time I waked past them I had that
nagging feeling and I knew my cane collection would look fabulous in the ammunition basket.
I finally gave in and switched them out the other day.
I figured I had, had the galvanized container for quite some time and it was time for a change.
I love the stenciled number on the front of the basket.
Baskets and basket weaving techniques have been used historically for many purposes including defense and war. Basketry ammunitions containers protected shells while they were being transported, wickerwork gabions reinforced earthwork redoubts, woven willow body armor and shields were carried or worn by soldiers, willow formed the frameworks in the hats of Queen's guards, were used to weave carrier pigeon baskets, officer's kit baskets, observational balloon baskets and basketwork found its way into numerous other aspects of combat.
Have a great week my friends!!!!
Joining the party at:

Hope to see you there!

ReplyDeleteLove it! It looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI love your new ammo basket! It's perfect holding your cane collection. I didn't realize you had so many! I almost bought one of those baskets at an antique market while shopping with my sister but didn't because of the bright orange handles on the sides. I just couldn't get past those. LOL! Yours is perfect though.
ReplyDeleteThe basket looks good displaying all your canes. I didn't know what these were used for until I read the history about them. Thanks for sharing, Deserae.
