For many years I had the same gold tone mirror hanging behind the sofa. It was originally purchased to brighten a dark hallway when we lived in a different house. It was always meant to be a temporary solution until I found the perfect piece. Over time the mirror took on more and more of an orange tone and while it photographed fine for pictures in person the orange color was wearing on me. Finally I replaced it with a beautiful trumeau mirror. However…..then I replaced the drapes and the beautiful trumeau mirror didn’t look so good anymore so I sold it. Yes, I don’t know what I was thinking?!?!?! BUT then, the new drapes didn’t work out so I didn’t have widow treatments or a mirror!!!!! Eventually I did find new drapes but the search for a new mirror continued. I was about to give up when I found this mirror the other day!
We had been out shopping for the day and decided to stop at an antique shop on the way home. I had browsed thru the entire store and just as we were about to leave I spotted it leaning on top of a fireplace mantel.
It was just perfect! It had the right amount of sparkly, bling and chipiness! Even my husband who usually doesn’t have much of an opinion thought it was perfect.
As we were loading the mirror into the truck I spotted writing on the back. In beautiful cursive writing was what we think is the name of the town in Ohio. We were only able to make out the Ohio……
Yesterday I took advantage of the semi warm temps we were having and set the ferns outside to sun in case you are wondering where they are and why the urn is empty.

the fact that you didn't have any drapes or mirror left after the revamp cracked me up. Can't tell you how many times I've been in that "opps" situation.

I absolutely love the mirror Des, what a great find! And oddly enough, I have a small piece of vintage art that is framed in a very similar frame - Love it! I love your living room! You have to post more photos of your house so I can see the whole thing.

ReplyDeleteI just love reading your blog, because my husband and I are fixing up an 1893 farmhouse in rural Kansas and sometimes it feels like we are all alone in our love for the historic treasures of this beautiful state! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous schoolhouse with the world and for restoring and lovingly preserving the history of our nation! Though I have never met you I feel as though we are friends. Much Love, Sara Jo Floyd
