A new sofa…..and a few other changes!

It took a while but after a few delays the living room is finally finished. I didn’t make any huge changes, just new drapes and pillows. I also bought a different white sofa because I had planned to use the IKEA one that was in the living room somewhere else.

I love the back of the sofa…..so curvy and very romantic!

The fabric is a white matelasse….

The pillows are a blue check and are

monogrammed in cream with our intital and antlers underneath.

A bucket full of clams……

Apparently I am really drawn to clam shells since I have acquired
quite a few without even realizing it.
I would pick one up here or there and before I knew it I had a collection.
I was going to put them in the little nook above the dining
room door but the little nook is too shallow.

clams2

Then the other day I remembered seeing shells in
a big metal basket when we went to the antique market several months ago.
I knew they would be perfect in my olive bucket so I went and grabbed them to try it out.
Previously I had magazines in the olive bucket and the pages would always curl
so this is a much better use for the bucket.

clams4

I love the little ruffles on the top of the shells……

clams5

The best part is it didn’t cost me any money since
I already had the olive bucket…..

Muscial mirrors…….

For many years I had the same gold tone mirror hanging behind the sofa. It was originally purchased to brighten a dark hallway when we lived in a different house. It was always meant to be a temporary solution until I found the perfect piece. Over time the mirror took on more and more of an orange tone and while it photographed fine for pictures in person the orange color was wearing on me. Finally I replaced it with a beautiful trumeau mirror. However…..then I replaced the drapes and the beautiful trumeau mirror didn’t look so good anymore so I sold it. Yes, I don’t know what I was thinking?!?!?! BUT then, the new drapes didn’t work out so I didn’t have widow treatments or a mirror!!!!! Eventually I did find new drapes but the search for a new mirror continued. I was about to give up when I found this mirror the other day!

mirrorC

We had been out shopping for the day and decided to stop at an antique shop on the way home. I had browsed thru the entire store and just as we were about to leave I spotted it leaning on top of a fireplace mantel.

mirrorF

It was just perfect! It had the right amount of sparkly, bling and chipiness! Even my husband who usually doesn’t have much of an opinion thought it was perfect.
As we were loading the mirror into the truck I spotted writing on the back. In beautiful cursive writing was what we think is the name of the town in Ohio. We were only able to make out the Ohio……

MirrorD

Yesterday I took advantage of the semi warm temps we were having and set the ferns outside to sun in case you are wondering where they are and why the urn is empty.

One man’s junk is another man’s treasure…….

I’m not sure why but I am really drawn to architectural salvage pieces……which most people consider to be junk and I of course consider to be treasure!
I have been “collecting” for 25+ years so my house is pretty full but somehow I still seem to manage to squeeze more in! My newest find is this salvaged window frame.

salvage piece

It is a quirky piece…..I love the piece of metal in the center and the braces in the corners!

salvage piece2

I’m not sure where it will end up but for now it has found a spot in the living room.

The furniture shuffle……

mirror

For several years now  I have had this gold tone mirror hanging behind the sofa in the living room. It is an inexpensive mirror that I bought  at Kirkland's in the clearance section over thirteen years ago. I have never really loved the mirror but had never found the perfect piece to replace it so there it continued to hang….for years! Please tell me you have things in your own home like this too?!?!?!

A new little trophy…….

We went to the antique market last weekend but I didn’t find much.

I did manage to come home with the sweet little trophy cup I found at an antique shop on the way home though.

A new find……

The weekend before we went to Texas we went to the antique market.
As soon as we walked into the first building I found tons of wonderful goodies on the first floor!!!
We looked on all the other floors but I didn’t find
much so back to the first floor I went to decide what was coming home with me.
Can you spot what I found?

Embracing spring…with new pillows!

After reupholstering the chair in front of the armoire in the buffalo check fabric I decided the other side of the room needed a little check fabric too.

rug6

So….. I made a little slipcover for the Frenchy foot stool and two pillows for the sofa to tie everything together.

Another rug……

Finding the perfect rug can be a  daunting task…..
they are certainly an investment and
can cost as much as a car so you definitely want to get it right!
I wasn’t that lucky……
It took me a few tries to get it right!

rug2

I was so disappointed when the rugs I ordered from Soft Surroundings were a bust.
It took over a month for them to give me a
refund and to this day I still have not received the sleeves to return them that I requested.

I have been looking for a footstool this size for quite some time……. I was so thrilled to finally find one!!

A little chair re-do……

I decided to re-cover this little chair in the living room the other day. The existing fabric wasn’t bad but didn’t match the other pieces in the room. I had a fabric remnant leftover from a previous project and decided it would be perfect for this chair.

Sorry I don’t have a better before picture……I seem to never remember to take a picture before I start a project!

That chair!!!!

Last week when I shared my new pillow with everyone I got a ton of emails inquiring as to where I got that chair.

pillow1

Well, the truth is….it is the same chair I have had for several years. I actually have a pair of them and was using them in the master bedroom until recently when I decided to switch the chairs around.

TGIF!!!

With the bitter colds temps we have had this
week nothing sounds better
than to curl up by the fire and read a good book!

#Fireplaces are a gorgeous decor piece when done with thought and soul. Ambiance could be created with a unique detail like a fire place.

A little blue and white……

The other day as I looked around the living room I felt like the
coffee table could use a little color…..

Dried hydrangeas….well sort of.

Decor Steals had artificial hydrangeas a while back.
I bought six stems to use for a project I was working on.
When they arrived the color was not what I was expecting and I
couldn't use them as I originally planned.
After looking around the house I realised the hydrangeas I had on top
of the vasselier in a basket could use a little refreshing.

New finds……

Today I am sharing a couple of new goodies

I found for the living room.

The first item is this fur I placed on the ottoman.

So incredibly soft……

The second item is this chippy shutter I found at the antique market a few weeks ago.

I love the narrow size….it fits the wall just perfectly!
