A finishing touch……

I picked up two sets of sconces while at the antique market last week.

I really had no intention of buying them

but they were such a good deal I just couldn’t resist!

I started off with the smaller set but the seller offered me such a good deal

on the bigger set too that I decided to buy all of them.

I had no idea where I was going to use them when I bought them

but I knew I would find a spot for them.

I decided to use one in the dining room under the ironstone platters.

I think it adds a nice finishing touch?

I have another spot in mind for the other sconce that matches this one.

I haven’t decided where the larger set will go yet?!?!

A new ironstone find for the master bathroom……..

 

A few weeks ago I came across an antique chamber pot at an antique shop. The price was really good since the lid had a crack however I couldn’t think of a spot for it so I passed on it. A few days later when I was in the bathroom taking a shower little Miss Gracie discovered how fun it is to dig in the trash and rip it into itsy bitsy pieces! That’s when it occurred to me that the ironstone chamber pot would be the perfect solution since it has a lid.Thankfully when I went back they still had it and the size was just perfect for next to the toity!

The lid has a crack and has been glued but I really don’t mind the imperfection. Isn’t the little handle on top adorable?

 

Looking from the master bathroom into the bedroom…..you can see the bathroom in the reflection of the mirror.

White ironstone platters……

The other day when I was re-arranging

things in the dining room

I decided to hang these platters on the wall.

I had a collection of plates hung here before but decided these

ironstone platters would look prettier.

I like that they are all a little different in color……

I hung them using the invisible

disc hangers which are removable with warm water.

I don’t know what it is about

white ironstone but I can never get enough of the stuff!

I think I may need a bigger

house if I continue to collect it though?!?!?

More ironstone…..

No matter how hard I try to NOT buy anymore

ironstone I seem to always

find just one more piece that I simply must have!

Since I have been collecting ironstone for over

twenty years I have pretty much reached maximum capacity.

Somehow though I managed to squeeze three more

pieces above the doorway in the dining room.

It’s a sickness I tell ya!

I also found this French fly catcher

when we went to the Bottoms Up antique market.

Originally I was going to hang

it in the mudroom but then my darling husband pointed out

that it would eventually be full of DEAD flys.

I wasn’t loving the

idea of having a bunch of dead

flys hanging around

so it found a home in one of the window sills.

Our holiday dining room

This year I decided to do Paper whites

in galvanized buckets for the dining room centerpiece

with vintage sheet music used as a table runner.

I used glass bowls as liners

and tucked burlap around the edge to hide the bowls.

Once the Paper whites started

to grow and droop a little I tied them up with red and white

baker’s twine for a festive touch.

Changes in the kitchen…..

 

The domino effect continues…..

into the kitchen!

It all started with a white ironstone bowl I had tucked away.

I decided it would be perfect in the

kitchen holding apples.

Of course changing things in

one corner of the kitchen meant changing all the

accessories in the kitchen!

After I had everything arranged just the way

I liked it I decided to take

a few pictures to share with all of you!

There I sat in front of my computer screen anticipating

beautiful pictures but instead all I could see is the

wall color that I never really loved!

On a whim I decided to repaint the kitchen the same

color as the dining room.

I get asked a lot why I never show the other side of the kitchen.

The truth is,

my kitchen is really small

and the other side is not very interesting!

The dining room slips….

 

The domino effect……..

You know how it is….you change one thing and that leads to

another, and yet another!

This has been the case with the new slipcovers for the living room.

Once they were in place it only made

since to carry them into the dining room too!

It is incredibly hard to get any good pictures of the dining room.

You  would probably never

guess that it gets amazing morning light,

yet it looks like

a dungeon in all the pictures!

I guess you just have to use your imagination! Ha,ha!
